American White oak
The Classic
RICH IN FLAVOR COMPOUNDS
White oak naturally contains compounds such as vanillin, oak lactones, tannins, and lignin-derived aromatics that contribute to the familiar character associated with barrel-aged whiskey.
TIGHT CELL STRUCTURE
White oak has a naturally closed cellular structure that makes it highly resistant to liquid penetration—one reason it has been trusted for whiskey barrels for generations.
TRANSFORMED BY HEAT
When white oak is toasted or charred, heat breaks down components within the wood and creates new aromatic compounds associated with vanilla, caramel, toast, and spice. That's why we char the interior of every Oak Whiskey Tumbler.
THE BOURBON STANDARD
American white oak (Quercus alba) has become synonymous with American whiskey. New charred oak containers are required for bourbon, making oak more than a design choice—it's part of the spirit's story
American Cherry Wood
Rich. Smooth. Unexpected
SWEET SOFT FLAVORS
Unlike white oak, cherry isn't the traditional bourbon-barrel wood—and that's what makes it interesting. The charred cherry interior gives whiskey drinkers a way to experience their pour against a distinctly different American hardwood.
FINE, CLOSED GRAIN
American black cherry (Prunus serotina) is a fine-grained hardwood with a smooth, tight texture—giving our Cherry Tumbler its refined feel and distinctive appearance.
DARKENS WITH AGE
Cherry's heartwood ranges from warm reddish-brown to deeper red-brown tones, giving every tumbler natural variation you simply can't reproduce with stain or artificial coloring.
A DIFFERENT TAKE ON WHISKEY
Unlike white oak, cherry isn't the traditional bourbon-barrel wood, and that's what makes it interesting. The charred cherry interior gives whiskey drinkers a way to experience their pour against a distinctly different American hardwood.
Cherry vs. Oak FAQ
What’s the biggest difference between the Oak and Cherry Tumblers?
The wood and flavor. White Oak is the classic choice, with the same species of wood traditionally associated with American bourbon barrels. Cherry has a warmer reddish-brown appearance and offers a smoother, more distinctive take on the wood-tumbler experience. Both are handcrafted in the USA from genuine American hardwood and charred on the inside.
Which one should I choose?
If you love bourbon and want the classic whiskey-and-oak experience, start with White Oak. If you want something a little richer, smoother, and less traditional, try Cherry. Still torn? Get both and taste the same whiskey side by side. When you add both, use code CHERRYOAK15 at checkout for 15% off.
Will they actually change the taste of my whiskey?
The effect is intentionally subtle. You're drinking directly from real charred hardwood, so the whiskey comes into contact with the wood as you drink. What you notice will depend on the whiskey, how long it sits, the tumbler, and your palate. Think of it as another layer to the experience, not something that overpowers a good pour.
Does the Cherry Tumbler make whiskey taste like cherries?
No. “Cherry” refers to the species of hardwood, not an added flavor. There's no cherry flavoring, extract, or anything artificial added to the tumbler.
Does the Oak Tumbler taste like a bourbon barrel?
Don't expect years of barrel aging to happen in your glass. What makes White Oak special is the connection: it's made from genuine American white oak and has a charred interior, bringing your whiskey back into contact with the type of wood that has played a defining role in American whiskey.
Why is the inside charred?
Charring transforms the surface of the wood and is fundamental to the relationship between oak and American whiskey. We char the inside of our tumblers to create that unmistakable charred-wood character and make the wood itself part of the drinking experience.
Are these actually made in USA?
Yes. Our Whiskey Tumblers are handcrafted in the USA and finished by our team in West Virginia. We believe a product built around the tradition of American whiskey should pay respect to that tradition and support skilled workers here at home.
How long can I leave whiskey in the tumbler?
These are designed as drinking vessels, not long-term storage containers. Pour your whiskey, enjoy it, and empty and clean the tumbler when you're finished rather than leaving liquid sitting in it overnight.
We recommend only leaving liquids in the tumbler for 4+ hours at a time and to apply our Wood Rub conditioner after every 1-2 uses to keep the wood hydrated and healthy.
Taste the difference
Bold and familiar, with the classic character whiskey drinkers know from American white oak with notes of vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak.
Vanilla
Smooth, warm vanilla is one of the signature flavor associations of charred American white oak.
Caramel
Charring oak helps create the sweet, toasted character commonly associated with caramel and brown sugar.
Toasted Oak
The defining note: warm, woody, slightly smoky character that feels immediately familiar to bourbon drinkers.
Smoother and subtly sweeter, with a softer wood character that complements notes of dark fruit, warm baking spice, and brown sugar.
Dark Fruit
A subtle fruit-forward character that complements the natural sweetness already present in many whiskeys.
Baking Spice
A gentle spice character that can complement notes of cinnamon, clove and other warm baking spices.
Toasted Sweetness
A softer toasted character that gives Cherry a distinctly different profile from the more traditional oak experience.
