How to clean
NEVER PUT THE TUMBLERS IN THE DISHWASHER
Our oak whiskey tumblers are made to drink whiskey neat or on ice, so you will only need to rinse the tumblers with warm water after every use because whiskey, by itself, will never create a dirty interior.
However, to clean the interior, you should do so in a natural way that won't damage the wood. We recommend to spritz the interior of the tumbler with a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water, then wipe out the excess with a clean towel. Air dry the tumbler for a few hours afterwards before using again.
Other issues
How to seal any minor leaks, cracks, and raised grains.
Minor Leaks
Our whiskey tumblers and shot "glasses" are made from natural wood, which inherently has a porous structure. This natural characteristic means that tiny leaks could develop in the wood. However, it is unlikely because we finish our tumblers in a way that prevents this.
If a small leak does happen to appear, all you need to do is apply our wood rub to seal it up. Here's how to use it:
- Wipe the tumbler out
- Apply a small glob of our wood rub to the location of the leak
- Follow that same location to the inside of the tumbler and apply it there too
- Turn the tumbler upside down and let the wood rub dry for 4+ hours
Minor Cracks
Wood is a living, breathing material that continues to respond to its environment long after being shaped into one of our tumblers or shot glasses. When there's a change in moisture levels in the environment, wood can contract and move, causing a crack.
This can be prevented by properly caring for and maintaining our tumblers with our specially formulated wood rub and by also keeping the tumbler in a temperature controlled environment.
For example, if you're by a bonfire for a few hours, we recommend to apply our wood rub both before and after. Excess heat and smoke from the fire could dry out the wood causing it to crack but pre-treating and post-treating helps to preserve and protect the wood from the environment. Basically, our specially formulated wood rub seals in moisture and forms a protective barrier around the wood. It's also 100% food-grade so it's safe to apply on the interior as well.
Raised Grain
If your tumbler feels rough or fuzzy, it's because the grain has raised due to moisture or humidity. This can be prevented by applying our wood rub to the tumblers after every two uses. If you live in a very cold or very hot climate, we recommend applying it to the exterior and interior after every use.
However, you can fix this by lightly sand the affected area with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper or with steel wool until smooth. Afterwards, wash and dry the tumbler and then apply our wood rub to seal it.Minor Leaks
