How Char Affects Your Whiskey

Charring the inside of an oak barrel is an age-old tradition in whiskey-making, essential to developing the rich flavor found in every sip. When oak is charred, its surface transforms into a layer of natural charcoal, which enhances the whiskey in two key ways: filtration and flavor.

As the whiskey interacts with the charred wood, the carbon layer acts as a natural filter, mellowing harsh compounds while deepening the spirit’s character. At the same time, the intense heat caramelizes the oak’s natural sugars, unlocking signature notes of caramel, toffee, and vanilla. This process is so integral to American whiskey that new, charred oak barrels are a legal requirement in the production of bourbon, rye, and other whiskeys.

US Domestic Orders

Each order will be packed and shipped within 3 business days. Delivery times will vary on your location within the US but won't exceed 5-7 business days.

International Orders

Most international orders are shipped with UPS and will take 3-10 business days. All orders are subject to import duties and taxes. Artisan Oak LLC does not cover import duties or taxes.

I used to think your tumbler was a gimmick. I have to say I was extremely wrong. It truly enhances my bourbon enjoyment. I wish I bought these earlier. Definitely have recommended your tumblers to my friends. They're the only cup I drink my bourbon out of now.

Unique way to enjoy my favorite bourbons

I enjoy the tumbler but only near. I tried it with ice and it doesn’t have the same taste. I found woodford double oak or a similar fuller body bourbon tastes richer in the tumbler .

I was not sure at first, whether this was true, but after receiving, I am very pleased with the results of this Tumbler. It does give the bourbon a charcoal taste. I am well satisfied and would buy again and would recommend.

Oak tumbler

Love the oak tumbler but did not receive the wood rub I ordered. I have sent 2 emails 4 days ago but have not heard anything back!!

Disappointed

My issue is with support and lack of clarity about what needs to be ordered. I received my tumbler and the first thing I notice is a sticky substance on the bottom. I sent a message on the website about this, but no response. I read instructions about using and treatment of the tumbler and realized that you need to buy the wood rub and treat the tumbler before using it! So, I sent another message via the “contact us” on the website and an email . A request for a review was the first reply I got….so, here it is. I’m stuck with a sticky tumbler and not sure buying the rub will help.

curious about the char in my tumblers

I was going to give a low star review because I emailed a question about my order and had not received a response, it took about 9 days to hear back. My question about the amount of char in my tumblers were answered. After that I tried the tumbler, it worked as advertised.
